Solidarity Rally: Support Worcester Refugees and Immigrants
January 31, 2017
WORCESTER, MA – Over 1000 Worcester residents rallied at Worcester City Hall on January 31st, 2017 to say that Worcester welcomes immigrants and refugees into this community. The rally showed the community’s strength by welcoming and being a new home, not targeting people who have been persecuted or victims of violence and economic displacement in their home countries.
The community stood together to reject any Council member who incites fear in our community. They showed how Worcester rejects Gaffney’s proposed vote to City Council and stand by the statements of the Mayor that we are a welcoming City. The community does not allow divisive statements, laws or resolutions nationally or locally to go unchallenged. A broad base of religious and community organizations and coalitions and our allies called on our community to show our strength in numbers for a city that continues to strengthen our acceptance and support of our immigrant and refugees families.
